Question 4 – my audience
This is an image of what I would expect my target audience to look like, I do know the boy in these images and have modelled my target audience on some of his interests, as I know he is the sort of person that would be interested in the magazine. My audience is the sort of person who will not compromise themselves in their lifestyle choices, fashion sense, music taste or any other are, at least not for the sake of pleasing other people. However it is not only aimed at teens but professionals within the arts
In terms of Demographics I would say that the age group would range anywhere from 16-30. As I don’t only want artistic and rebellious teenagers to read the magazine, I want people who have a say in the artistic and media industries to be influences by it. On the whole I would say it is targeted at women and gays, however stereotypes are being broken all the time, and it is not unheard of for a straight man to be interested or even find a career in the art/fashion industry. I would say that most of the people that read my magazine would either be people from big cities or people who aspire to live in big cities, I would expect this to be a large amount of my TA, a lot of people who have big aspirations but are from small towns use magazines and the media as a form of escapism. Single people are most likely to read my magazine because it is aimed at a young age group, and even the older people in my audience would be more independent, rather than the traditional ‘married by 30’ and ‘three babies by 40’. I would definitely put my target audience as classes A and B, because they are most likely to be professionals in their field or aspiring professionals (art, fashion, design students or interns/apprentices.) I think my target audience would be dominated by aspirers and individuals, I think my magazine is something that would attract people that want to achieve a big career in fashion or music. Also I think the style of my magazine attracts the individual, because it has an indie quality that runs through the magazine, and most of the designers and artists featured in the magazine are also aimed and individuals of a similar age. Yuppies and Pinks would be the most likely subsets for my audience/
My target audience would be likely to shop in vintage boutiques to find unique clothes that will set them aside from other people and charity shops however for finding unique clothes rather than saving money they are likely to be subversive and perhaps at times even ironic in the way that they dress. It is important for my target audience that they appear unique as well as looking chic and cool this is why the sort of people that read my magazine that they know what is fashionable, so they can see how to use current trends to make their own. A lot of this inspiration would be taken from the artists that sing the music that they listen to.
My audience would be interested in my magazine because it gives them a chance to make sure they are on the pulse of new music and fashions, and seeing what aspects they can take inspiration from. My magazine is supposed to be about culture & lifestyle as well as music and fashion. I think the reason people will read my magazine and it why a lot of designers read magazines and that is to find inspiration, to look at the photos and features, and take inspiration and ideas from that after all I am trying to create a magazine that evokes creativity in people.
I would intend to have popular high fashion brands to advertise in my magazine ideally magazines which offer men's and women's lines of clothes as i am trying to make my magazine appealing to both genders. However I wouldn't only want designers brands to advertise as there is a range of classes which my magazine is aimed at, so there will not all necessarily be able to spend the same amount on clothes as someone who is on a seven figure salary. I think it is important that smaller brands are advertised because there is a lot to said for independent designers and vintage boutiques. For example there are chains of vintage clothing shops which in my opinion should be more adequately advertised. Because my audience is interested in both designers brands and vintage pieces or perhaps a designer vintage piece it makes sense that I advertise both of them.
