College Magazine Analysis

This magazine is very appealing to the audience because it demonstrates an average but attractive young student who the reader will be able to relate to easily. The expression on the girls face is very relaxed and the red top and denim shorts make her seem like an average student, some people who we questioned said they would be more interested in the magazine if it had pictures of our students on the cover.
The colour red is proven to catch the reader’s attentions and it features heavily in this cover Also Red and green are complimentary contrasting colours so the red is even more eye catching than it would be if it were on a yellow background for example.
Also the font is very current and in keeping with the target audience. The stories themselves are very targeted at a young audience, for example ‘SMOKING’ ‘BEER’ ‘TEEN PEGRANCY’ these are all things that would take the interest of the audience. Also in this case they seem to be advisory points, trying to guide the students to make good decisions, in regards to their health and their careers. Also there is added light humour ‘TUCKER MAX, better hope they serve beer in hell’ also the word exclusive, draws the reader in if they think they are going to reading about something that everyone will be talking about, because everyone especially students want to be in the loop.
Also our questionnaire showed that the majority of the audience would be unsure about paying for the college magazine, whereas this one has a notice, next to the bar code where the price would normally be, saying ‘100 % free’ this depends on whether you are using the magazine to make money or to simply spread stories and information, in which case maybe a free magazine which a few paid advertisers would be a good idea.
